8 Days From Fes Adventure and Desert Magic

Day 1: Fez

Arrival at the airport and transfer to the center of the medina of Fez, cultural capital of Morocco. Accommodation in Riyadh.

Day 2: Visit of the Medina and the Monuments of Fez

Free day in FEZ. When penetrating the streets of your medina (old city) we will feel that time recedes: the union structure is still present in the work, the narrowness of its streets does not allow other means of transport than donkeys and a constant tingling of people moves through the labyrinthine streets in the midst of which neighborhoods like the one of the Andalusians and magnificent mosques and Koranic schools will surprise us. Fez has always been associated with study and religiosity, and remains the spiritual capital of Morocco. After visiting the medina, another option is to walk aimlessly through the streets of Fez-Jdid, where the royal palace, the mellah (Jewish quarter) and the oldest mosque in Fez are located. Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Cedros Forest – Midélt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, departure to Midelt through the mountains and cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. Pass by Ifrane, a charming ski resort and Azrou, an important craft center specializing in cedar wood work. After the Zad Pass (2178m / 7146ft), we will arrive at Midelt for lunch. In the afternoon, we will descend towards Erfoud and Errachidia through the Ziz Valley, dotted with palm trees. Continue to the sand dunes of the Erg Chebbi. Day 4: Merzouga- Tour of Erg Chebbi – Village of Khamlia – Night in typical Haimas Nomadas

This will be a stage where after breakfast, we will go through another of the tracks used in the ‘Rally Paris-Dakar’, visiting nomads of the desert with whom we will have tea and see the oasis where some movies were filmed as ‘Sahara’, starring by Penélope Cruz. We will visit the town of ‘los negros’, named for the slave trade they brought from the Sudan. And after eating we will change the 4 × 4 traction to the animal traction. The dromedaries will take us to the desert of dunes to contemplate an unforgettable sunset. This night will be special, we will sleep in the dunes in nomad tents (haimas), as the Berbers do. Here we will enjoy a Berber dinner, music and a starry sky like you have never seen before. Dinner and accommodation in the unforgettable haima.

Day 5: The Erg Chebbi Dunes – Rissani Market – The Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

Today we recommend early to walk to the highest dune that is around the camp to enjoy the sunrise and this relaxing landscape that nature offers, we will return by camels to the town of Merzouga. After a delicious breakfast, we have to say goodbye to the desert and we will go to Rissani where we will visit its market (if we are lucky and it is one of the market days: Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday) we will follow the road to Erfoud where there is possibility to visit the factory of fossilized marble before continuing to the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad. 1 hour later we will arrive at one of the strongest points of the High Atlas: The Todra Gorges. The channel of the Todra River has formed a defile of vertical walls of enormous proportions and of great beauty; It is a paradise for climbers and a unique place. Lunch at the site and a half hour walk would be advisable to see and enjoy the Gorges with detail. In the afternoon we will continue towards the Dadès Valley, known for the Valley of Figs, passing through Boumalne Dadés we will stop at the ” patas de mono ”. Dinner and night in the Dades Gorges.

Day 6: Valle del Dadés – Ouarzazate – Kasbah by Ait Ben Haddou – Alto Atlas – Marrakech

After having breakfast, we can enjoy one of the best views of the Dadés Valley. We will do it from one of the most strategic places that the mountains offer us. From there, we will be able to observe the amount of kasbah that exist and the picturesque of each one, then exit towards a highway sprinkled with different Kasbah of great interest. After several stops to enjoy the route of the Mil Kasbah, the Valle de las Rosas and the great Skoura palm grove, we will arrive to Ouarzazate and visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, former residence of the Glaoui or pachá of Marrakech, Film and Museum Studies Cinema if you are interested. We will also go to the fortified town of Ait Ben Haddou, where we will visit its famous Kasbah (Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986). In this spectacular frame have been filmed several famous films like Gladiator, Obelix, Sahara with Penelope Cruz … etc. Lunch in the village and in the afternoon we will depart to Marrakech crossing the Tizi Ntichka mountain port with stops to take photos. Here we will leave behind the lunar landscape that will give way to the predominant green colors, ocher … etc. Arrival in Marrakech about 18 hours or more, transfer and accommodation in Riyadh.

Day 7: Marrakech Guided tour

After breakfast, we will begin the visit with a local guide to the old town called The ‘Jewel of Morocco’ and the ‘Pearl of the South’ – includes the Koutoubia Mosque, the richly decorated tombs of the Saadien dynasty; the palace of Bahía and the Coránica Madraza. After lunch, he will continue his tour with the visit to the Jemaa el Fna square, all Marrakech revolves around that place, since 2008 Unesco has enrolled it as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, its Medina with its colorful zocos or markets.
